Mercia’s Commitment to Youth Development Continues!

Mercia Image, Derby’s longest established and most successful commercial printing company, based in Little Eaton, have taken on another apprentice full time as part of their commitment to bringing youth into the print industry.

Kieran Bass, who joined the Mercia Production team in November 2015, has been offered a full time position as Print Finishing Assistant, after successfully completing his Performing Manufacturing Operations Apprenticeship with Derby College.

Print Finishing Manager, Daniel Kinnerley said “Kieran has done really well during his apprenticeship, learning different aspects of the business and the skills it takes to run several different print finishing machines. Kieran has quickly become a very valuable member of the team, having shown a great work ethic to achieve his goal and become a full time member of the Print Finishing Team”.

Kieran is the first production apprentice to come through the ranks and gain a full time job in Mercia’s Production Department, Daniel Kinnerley added “Taking on apprentices is a great way to help you build for the future while passing years of experience and knowledge down from other members of the team. I am looking forward to seeing Kieran progress over the coming years.”

David Clarke, Derby College’s Engineering Assessor said “The course is made up of 6 units selected by Kieran and myself, meaning that Kieran is able to choose the units which will benefit him in his chosen career. He has to be observed on 3 occasions which he’s done excellently every time, showing his willingness to learn and the skills he has gained.”

Kieran’s new role will see him furthering the skills he has in the Print Industry as well as learning new techniques, processes and machinery. After being offered his full time role, Kieran said “I am delighted to receive a full time job with Mercia Image Print and feel like with the skills I have learned, I am ready to go to the next level in my career. I’d like to thank Mercia, and especially Amanda Strong, MD, for giving me the opportunity and I look forward to my future with this company.”

As Kieran embarks on his career, Mercia are already looking at taking on a new production apprentice so that the next generation can continue to learn such skilled jobs in the Print Industry.
