Mercia Image Print, Derby’s largest commercial printer, have continued their commitment to apprentices by offering their Digital Media and Marketing Apprentice, Tom Lacey, a full time position as Digital Marketing Co-ordinator.
Tom joined Mercia Image Print in April 2016 and quickly established himself as a very valuable member of the team, building a huge social media following and creating outstanding business analytics to help the company focus on their strategy. On successful completion of his Level 3 Diploma in Digital Media and Marketing Apprenticeship, Tom was offered the job by Amanda Strong, Mercia’s owner and Managing Director. “Tom has applied himself very well and I had no hesitation in appointing him” said Amanda. “His work has been first class and 3aaa have guided him all the way, with what appears to be a great syllabus and curriculum.”
Mercia have been actively training and guiding apprentices since getting involved with the Derby College ‘When I Am’ initiative back in 2015. Alongside Derby College, Mercia have a rewarding business association with 3aaa. Tom is Mercia’s fourth apprentice and a testament to Amanda’s commitment to youth development and keeping the skills of the printing industry ‘alive and kicking’.
David Wastie – Academy Manager, for the 3aaa Derby Academy, said how delighted he was to see Tom develop and progress into full time employment. “Tom has earned his opportunity. He has been one of our strongest apprentices in the last year, always ahead of targets, 100% attendance and the quality of his work has been exceptional” commented David “He has worked hard and his assessor was exceptionally pleased with how he has applied himself. So much so, that Tom has been encouraged to enrol for his Level 4 Diploma with 3aaa, which starts in April.”
David is delighted with the commitment to Tom and the programme by Amanda. “Working with companies who care about their staff and the heritage of their industry is very refreshing and very rewarding” continued David.
Tom’s new role will see him developing the skills he has already learned, whilst building a deeper understanding of applying them at the business ‘coalface’. Tom confirmed “I am very pleased and excited to have the opportunity to get ‘stuck in’ to my new role and to build the company’s image and customer base using social media and marketing. I know I will develop skills that will last a lifetime and I will always be grateful for the help and support I have received from Amanda, all the team at Mercia and the 3aaa Academy”
As Tom embarks on his career, Mercia are already seeking new apprentices for even more opportunities within the company.
